Intense and vibrant blue fruits – fresh blueberry and dark plum. There is an aromatic and floral note from the Viognier addition. Aromas of violets with a hint of apricot and underlying black pepper.
“It’s aromatic, bright and lively. It serves its flavours with a smile on its face but when you’re not looking it has a slight scowl; the aftertaste is outlined with a (modest) bitterness. Cherry-berry flavours abound, as do woodsy spice and florals. It’s medium in weight, and it’s nicely done. I looked at this over the course of 24 hours and given time to breathe the bitterness on the finish faded almost to zilch. Give this another year in bottle and it will sing.” - 90 Pts - The Wine Front, March 2019
Soft, plush and generous tannins with a rich and ripe fruit intensity. Flavours of blueberry, licorice, spice and black pepper abound and are beautifully balanced with the new and seasoned French oak. The wine displays a long and persistent finish. Cellar for 10 – 15 years and match with braised, slow cooked lamb shoulder.
"While viognier is on the label, it's only about 2%. Excellent dark purple-red; florals and lots of pepper, woodsy spices and char, mingling with some dark fruit but ultimately this is a savoury, dry style. Lots to enjoy with this more medium-bodied wine but the tannins haven't quite smoothed out.” - Halliday Wine Companion 2020
